Effective December 31, 2021, CRPNS will no longer continue to regulate RPNs in Nunavut and Northwest Territories. In 2000, signatories from the four (4) RPN regulatory bodies in western Canada entered into an agreement to enable and facilitate the practice of RPNs in the northern Canadian territories. CRPNS is serving notice that effective December 31, 2021, CRPNS will no longer continue to be a signatory in the agreement and as such CRPNS registration will not allow RPNs to work in the northern territories.
In order for CRPNS members to work permanently in the north, CRPNS members will need to be registered outside of Saskatchewan after December 31, 2021. In addition, members will have to carry both CRPNS registration and a registration status with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA) if a member plans to accept future short-term contracts in the north as well as continue to work in Saskatchewan.
